Nature
At first sight, it is the sea that draws the eye. Yet, the beauty of Thassos does not end there. An island of particular natural beauty with “virgin” footpaths leading to pools and waterfalls that are there for you to discover.

Everything stirs and invites you to learn the history of the island through its nature.

Monasteries
There are three monasteries on the island, all of which are extremely beautiful.

The Monastery of the Archangel Michael is a spectacular sight, clinging to the cliffside in the south of the island. Originally built in 1110 It is currently being expanded and a new chapel is being added. The convent has a renowned relic, known as the “Timio Ilo”, or The Holy Nail, a remnant from one of the nails of the crucifixion of Christ.

History
According to myth Thasus was the son of Poseidon and Dionysus called it Ogygia Thassos, coast of the goddess Demeter for its fertility and fortune, while according to Pliny it was also called occasionally Aeria and Airthria (ethereal and serene).

To delve a little into the fascinating story of the island you can visit the archaeological museum or the various ancient sites.
